JSON Formatter
Beautify, validate and minify JSON in one click โ fast, free and completely private.
The JSON Formatter takes messy or compact JSON and makes it readable with clean 2-space indentation, or shrinks it to a single-line minified string for APIs and configs. It validates with the browser's native parser and shows exactly where invalid JSON breaks, including the character position. It is ideal for debugging API responses, config files and webhook payloads.
How to use the JSON Formatter
- Paste or type your JSON into the text box at the top of the tool.
- Click Format to beautify it with 2-space indentation, or Minify to compress it to a single line.
- Use Copy Result to copy the output, or Clear to start over with a fresh input.
JSON Formatter โ FAQs
Is this JSON formatter free to use?
Yes, it is completely free with no signup, no limits and no watermarks. You can format or minify as many JSON documents as you like, as often as you like, directly in your browser โ perfect for daily API debugging work.
Is my JSON data uploaded to a server?
No. All formatting and validation happen locally in your browser using the built-in JSON parser. Your data never leaves your device, so it is safe to use with API keys, tokens and other sensitive payloads.
What happens if my JSON is invalid?
The tool shows the exact parser error message together with the character position where parsing failed. Check that position for a missing comma, quote or bracket, fix the mistake, and press Format again to validate the corrected JSON.
What is the difference between Format and Minify?
Format adds 2-space indentation and line breaks so JSON is easy for humans to read and debug. Minify removes all unnecessary whitespace to produce the smallest possible string, which is best for sending data over the network or storing in configs.
