What is BMR?
Basal Metabolic Rate is the number of calories your body burns in 24 hours at complete rest, just to keep you alive โ breathing, circulation, brain function and cell repair. It usually accounts for 60 to 75 percent of the calories you burn in a day, with activity and digestion making up the rest.
How accurate is the Mifflin-St Jeor formula?
It is considered the most accurate widely used BMR equation without lab testing, and dietitians prefer it over older formulas. Still, it is an estimate: muscle mass, hormones, illness and medications all affect real calorie burn, so treat the result as a strong starting point, not a medical prescription.
How do I use this to lose weight?
The tool shows a mild weight-loss target about 500 calories below your daily needs, which typically leads to around half a kilogram of loss per week. Combine the calorie target with regular activity, and talk to a doctor or dietitian before starting any strict diet.
